Sustainability Management

The Group is building a sustainability promotion structure centered around the Group Sustainability Committee to make meaningful contributions to the realization of a sustainable society. In April 2023, a new position of Chief Sustainability Officer (CSuO) was created for an individual tasked with promoting the Group sustainability strategy and chairing the Group Sustainability Committee. A number of initiatives, including those designed to tackle climate change, are discussed by the committee and reported regularly for review to the Executive Management Board and the Board of Directors. Further, the Group includes sustainability criteria, including indicators related to progress in reducing CO2 emissions, as part of evaluation criteria for performance-linked stock-based remuneration for directors and officers.

I have been participating in the Dai-ichi Life Group's Sustainability Committee as an external expert since fiscal 2021. The Group is committed to continuously improving its corporate value under the vision of "Protect and improve the well-being of all." At the committee, we have been discussing the Group's value creation story, materiality organization and business connections in order to achieve this vision. The outcomes of these discussions can be seen objectively in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices and other indices, which compare Dai-ichi Life Holdings' progress in promoting sustainability to other companies.
The Dai-ichi Life Group will continue to make further efforts to demonstrate its uniqueness (competitive advantage) and communicate how it aims to perform well in terms of both financial and non-financial KPIs in an easily comprehensible manner to all stakeholders. It goes without saying that the Dai-ichi Life Group has placed a high value on the "spirit of mutual support" since its foundation. The Group will continue to work steadily toward "sustainable well-being" for people, society and the Earth through dialogue and cooperation with its stakeholders. We look forward to your candid feedback on this topic.
